BooksWhale Games

Source Notes

BooksWhale games may begin from classic books, public-domain sources, myths, history, philosophy, and cultural memory. These notes explain how source material, original game work, credits, and rights review are handled.

Public-domain sources

A BooksWhale game may draw on public-domain books, translations, folklore, religious texts, philosophical works, historical events, paintings, maps, or other cultural material that can be used freely in the relevant jurisdiction.

When a game is substantially inspired by a recognizable work or tradition, BooksWhale aims to describe the source relationship clearly in the game page, credits, store listing, or supporting notes.

Original game layer

Public-domain inspiration does not make the finished game a copy of the source. BooksWhale adds original expression through mechanics, systems, scenes, art direction, user interface, pacing, level design, adaptation choices, sound treatment, and new writing.

The original game layer is BooksWhale work unless a particular asset, tool, library, font, sound, or contribution is separately credited.

Translations, adaptations, and credits

Translations and adaptations can have their own copyright status. BooksWhale uses public-domain translations, BooksWhale-created text, licensed material, or credited third-party components where appropriate.

Credits may appear in the game, on the store page, in documentation, or on BooksWhale web pages. If a credit is missing or unclear, it can be reported through Game Support.

Rights review and corrections

If you believe a source, excerpt, translation, artwork, sound, logo, name, or other asset should not be used, please contact BooksWhale with the game title, platform, exact location, source claim, and any documentation that helps us review the matter.

BooksWhale will investigate credible rights, public-domain, attribution, cultural-sensitivity, and takedown concerns and may correct, replace, remove, or clarify material when appropriate.
